This afternoon yet more worrying allegations have emerged that an enraged David Cameron has launched another rant at leading Lords Reform rebel Jesse Norman. Perhaps even more disturbingly, the Mail is reporting that the PM recently signalled to Tory MP Andrew Griffiths that opposing the bill would not be career threatening. We have a bizarre situation here, where Cameron is giving the green light on one hand, then seeing red when things don’t go his own way.
The real issue here, as I have highlighted before, is that working people, struggling to pay their rent and worrying about losing their jobs don’t give a damn about trivial issues like Lords Reform. Cameron’s smoke and mirrors strategy is starting to unravel – and alienating some of the Party’s most competent and hardworking MPs is a ludicrous price to pay over such a non-issue.
